The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Denver on Sunday was $3.83, compared with the national average of $3.81, according to the gasoline price website DenverGasPrices.com. Including the change in gas prices in Denver last week, prices Sunday were 20.5 cents a gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. More >

Denver City Council OKs Target tax financing

The Denver City Council on Tuesday approved $5 million in tax financing for a new Target store that officials hope will spark the redevelopment of the former Tamarac Square Mall off of Hampden Avenue.

The council voted 12-1 with Councilwoman Susan Shepherd casting the lone vote against the plan that over the past month had stirred controversy among some neighbors, who were concerned the city is giving too much away to the national retailer.

Hiring on upward track in Denver

Local employers expect to hire at a solid pace during the second quarter according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

From April to June, 18 percent of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees. Another 78 percent expect to maintain their current workforce levels.

High winds delay flights at Denver Int Airport

Strong gusts Wednesday delayed flights arriving in Denver for part of the day, downed power lines and trees, and fueled two wildland fires in Boulder County. Xcel Energy Inc. reported about 33,000 customers mostly in the west Denver area lost power, and it could be Friday or possibly the weekend before all power is restored.

Colorado Springs also was dealing with downed trees and power lines. Colorado Springs Utilities said about 1,100 customers lost power Wednesday night.

Spirit Airlines to launch Denver flights in May

The no-frills carrier Spirit Airlines Inc. says it plans to start offering daily, nonstop flights from Denver to its four largest bases starting May 3. The new flights will connect Denver to Las Vegas; Fort Lauderdale; Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. More >
